How to Set Up Claris Emailer version 2.0v3 for SBAMUG email:
Pull the "Setup Menu to "Accounts.
Double-click your account, or the "new" button to make a new one.
Enter your info like this
Important: for SMTP server, use whatever your ISP gave you, or use this one. If you use our SMTP server mail.sbamug.com on port 25 or 587. The mail server requires smtp authentication, and does not suport APOP. So you may need to patched version at the borrom of this page. Or, (dare I say it?) it may be time to upgrade to a more modern email client. (*sob!*)
Encoding format is used when you send an attachment. It's generally best to Select "Apple Double" as the encoding. Contrary to what you might guess, it's a very cross-platform friendly format. Binhex is only good if you're sending to another Mac. Some Windoze systems prefer attachments as UUencode.
Our server now requires SMTP authentication. The original versions of Claris EMailer did not support this, but there is a patch to support SMTP authentication using the same username & password as the receiving POP server. You will need to already have the full installation of Claris Emailer v2.03. Then replace the emailer application with one of the patched versions, such as this one that includes SMTP auth and port 587. You can read the explaination of the different Claris Emailer versions and the 3rd party patches here.
The Emailer-Talk email list is still (somewhat) active.
